The Mahesh Bhatt who also worked on Murder and Murder 2 decided that Emraan Hashmi would not be returning for the third movie and that Randeep Hooda would play the main role with Asin Thottumkal was originally casted for the lead female role but she was not happy with the script and the role is go to Esha Gupta. Yet, talks with Esha leaved the movie and finally selected Aditi Rao Hydari as a the female lead actress. Pakistani actress Sara Loren was then chosen as the second female lead.

Mahesh Bhatt interview stated that “Murder 3 film is the 2013 equivalent of his 1983 controversial film, Arth. Then it was the institution of marriage that was deconstructed and 30 years later Murder 3 deconstructs love and questions its very existence in today’s world of relationship crimes. Now that we have the official rights of the film (The Hidden Face), we look to doing it justice and taking the Murder franchise forward.”

This film music composer are Pritam, Anupam Amod & Roxen (band). The lyrics writer is Sayeed Quadri. The music album was released on 2 February 2013. 

The songs were highly popular specially the songs “Teri Jhuki Nazar” and “Hum Jee Lenge” was popular among the masses while the other songs like “Mat Azma Re” and “Jaata Hai Tujh Tak” were also very popular gaining positive critical review and mass appeal. The music focused on the Rock Genre and was unique in the Murder brand.

Murder 3 received mixed reviews from critics.

Critics reviews :

• Times of India critics gave 3 star out of 5 star and stated that "This one’s no bloody Valentine, but watch it if you like it twisted. With more mystery than grisly murders, debutant Vishesh Bhatt works around a story (a remake of a Spanish thriller) that’s ‘fleshy’ enough (minus the sex and eroticism of a ‘Murderesque’ series) creating an eerie setting, with sombre moods and suspicious characters. He solely relies on the strength of the story without glossed-over effects and style, which is commendable. The first half ghost-walks into a comfort zone (with songs, romance et al); while the second half terrifyingly twists, with raging emotions and shuddering shock value. Randeep smoothly builds tension with his silent and mysterious performance. Aditi’s deranged act and traumatic breakdown at betrayal is impressive. Sara only adds beauty to the horror. The lilting music (Pritam) intonates the thriller. ‘Murder 3’ is a decent remake, the story stands out in this genre. It thrills in spurts but bleeds in parts."
• Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama gave Highest ranking 4 star from 5 star and appreciates the makers by mentioned that "Randeep does complete justice to the character he illustrates. Sure, one does miss Emraan Hashmi initially, but once the narrative seizes your attention, Randeep brings alive his character and you don't draw parallels subsequently. Both Aditi and Sara are show-stoppers and deliver knockout performances. Aditi excels in the post-interval portions, while Sara gets a platform to prove her talent in several sequences. Both score and how!, Rajesh Shringarpure makes his presence felt. Shekhar Shukla is decent. Bugs Bhargava is efficient.Overall, MURDER 3 is one of the finest thrillers to come out of Vishesh Films. An outstanding story narrated with ferocious enthusiasm. Vishesh Bhatt hits a boundary in his very first attempt!"
• Ravina Rawal from Firstpost on her reviewing the film writes that "The beautiful Sara Loren is the least effective of the lot as far as acting prowess goes; though Randeep Hooda, on whom you can usually rely on to deliver an above-average performance, also falters a fair bit, Aditi Rao Hydari starts out slightly self-conscious, but ends up being the only one of the cast earning any points."
• Anupama Chopra from Hindustantimes gave 2 star from 5 star and writes that "I haven't seen it but this Indianised version is fearlessly foolish."
• Nabanita of OneIndia also gave it 3 star out of 5 while stated that it has thrills but it fails to captivate.
• Roshni Devi of Koimoi gave it 2.5 star from 5 star, saying that it is worth a watch. 
• Saibal Chatterjee of NDTV gave it 2.5 star from 5 stars and stated ''Murder 3, a thriller that vacillates between the taut to the toxic, packs enough punch and panache to keep the audience glued, if not sweep them off their feet. It tweaks the formula just a tad – it goes somewhat easy on the erotic component of the Murder franchise, opts for a markedly stronger emotional spine, and gives the female characters more than usual space."
