Refugee Film Story
Bihar-based After India was divided in 1947, Manzur Ahmad and his family moved to East Pakistan. However, he and a number of other people were compelled to move to the western region of Pakistan after the state of Bangladesh was established in 1971. They will have to cross India in order to do this on land. The journey from Dhaka goes through Guwahati in India, Delhi, Ajmer, Bhuj, and finally Haji Peer in Pakistan.
They make it as far as Bhuj before receiving help from a mysterious operative who goes by the name of "Refugee" who helps them walk over the Great Rann of Kutch to Pakistan. Refugee doesn't want to get emotionally invested in his clients' experiences and views them as little more than pieces of luggage. Then he meets Manzur Ahmed's daughter Nazneen Ahmed and develops feelings for her.
The illicit refugee traffic is known to the law enforcement on both sides of the border, and the Indian police frequently question the refugee and his elderly father Jan Muhammad. One day, Refugee assists four men in crossing the border into India. To travel to Delhi, these men recruit the assistance of Mr. Muhammad's other son. Soon after, explosions occur in the Indian capital's trains, buses, and buildings.
A refugee returns across the border to Nazneen. She requests that he take her along since her father wants her to wed Pakistan Rangers officer Mohammad Ashraf. They are apprehended by Pakistani rangers as they attempt to cross the border across the Rann. A battered refugee is transported by camel to India. He is apprehended by the Indian BSF, who then arrange for his hospitalization. He is said by the Indians that he unintentionally assisted terrorists in entering India, which resulted in multiple deaths. An exile joins the BSF and engages in combat against the terrorists who besieged his village.
Nazneen gives birth to a refugee's child at the border between the two countries, and the movie finishes there. Personnel from the Pakistani Rangers and the Indian BSF joke around about the child's nationality.

Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama gave 2 star out of 5 star and stated that "OM JAI JAGADISH film is not the type that may set the box-office ablaze, but it may find some flavour with ladies in particular. Should grow with word of mouth publicity."
Priya Ganapati from rediff.com on film reviewing stated that "Waheeda Rehman, who makes a comeback, is effervescent, passionate and poignant.Anil Kapoor glides through his role.Fardeen Khan could do with another course at acting school.Abhishek Bachchan is much better here than in his earlier films. The three heroines, Mahima Chaudhary who plays an MTV veejay at the beginning, Urmila Matondkar and Tara Sharma have little to do. Om Jai Jagadish is entertaining. It has the right gloss, the necessary Bollywood ingredients and may even work at the box-office. But for Kher, it is an opportunity missed."
