The film portrays the circumstances surrounding the rise of the Sikh insurgency in Punjab in the 1980s and traces the transformation of a youth from a boy next door to a dreaded terrorist bent on wreaking vengeance.

Story of the film :

Ajay Saxena(Sunny Deol) and Abdul(Sudesh Berry) are working together in Indian Secret Service Agents, They are not only co-workers, but also live like brothers and family. Their Chief (Navin Nischol) asks Abdul to take charge of Project M, dealing with India's nuclear capability for defense, while Ajay proceeds on a vacation to Switzerland.

In Switzerland, he meets with beautiful Anju(Tabu) and both fall in love with each other. When he returns to India, he is told that Abdul has been killed, the file related to Project M is missing, and he is assigned the task of not only recovering the file but also seize the culprits.

Ajay planned to go Bangalore and finds that Anju also lives there with her wealthy businessman dad, Brij Mohan also called BM(Mohan Joshi).

Ajay will soon find out that his romance with Anju is short-lived as her dad may be connected with the masterminds who had the secret file stolen, and are now determined to do away with Ajay as they had with Abdul.

Pre-Production and Casting :

In 1997 Mrityudata film was flopped at the box office, Director Mehul Kumar wanted to make another film with Amitabh Bachchan. Both these films were produced by Amitabh Bachchan Corporation. This is when he came up with the idea for Kohram.

The original cast announced consisted of Dimple Kapadia, Arshad Warsi and Karisma Kapoor with the working title as "Aye Watan Tere Liye". However, later that was post-poned and this film was made. Initially, Nana Patekar had declined Mehul Kumar'planned to release on 6th August, but then Mehul Kumar advanced it to 13th August.

When the film was first launched, it was titled " Challenge" but the rights to the title were with K.C.Bokadia. He did not want to give the title rights away.

Amitabh Bachchan was paid ten million rupees to sign on to the film, and another 20 million rupees to finish it.

Film Story

An innocent simpleton Ram Saran Pandey (Manoj Bajpayee) travels from his village to Mumbai to find work. He tells his parents he will phone them after he is settled in the city before he departs. He obtains employment as a mechanic in the busy metropolis. Journalist Kamya Lal stops by the auto repair shop as a customer and is shocked by his sincerity and innocence. She decides to write articles on his life in order to popularize him in the social circles. As soon as they start to admire each other, they become excellent friends, and Ram starts to fall for her. She, however, rejects every one of his advances.

Ram crushes his heart after he unintentionally sees Kamya in her apartment in a sexually explicit position with another person. He makes the decision to lose his innocence, follows the difficult path to propose to her, and becomes a don in the community.

Review of the film

DIL PE MAT LE YAAR received a 1.5 out of 5 rating from Taran Adarsh of IndiaFM, who said, "Those looking for'masala' will be utterly let down. Overa;;, DIL PE MAT LE YAAR film is a semi-art, semi plus commercial film that will appeal to a select few people in Mumbai. The movie might do well financially in a few Mumbai theaters, but outside of the city limits, it will have difficulties. 

Being issued with a number of significant initiatives will also have an impact on its business.Despite being a "unoriginal small town boy moving to the dream city story," 

Rediff.com's Sharmila Taliculam termed the movie "striking," and Kanchana Suggu described it as a "honest film" that "touches your heart."
