The film music composer is A. R. Rahman while lyrics writer are Mehboob and Sukhwinder Singh. 

After Taal film music success, this film music album from Rahman received positive critics reviews and was claimed the highlight of the movie.

The composition of the song "Jumbalika" was reused from A. R. Rahman's earlier Tamil film En Swasa Kaatre, which was used in episode I Just Wasn't Made for These Times of science fiction TV series Defiance For the music to the 2001 Tamil movie Star, Rahman reused most of his compositions from Thakshak.
