The film reviews are highly positive and became a super hit at the Box office. Its dialogues became very popular among masses. Many of its dialogues are still used as memes in social media.

Critics reviews :

  • Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama gave 4 star out of 5 star and writes that "Akshay Kumar is fantastic,Suniel Shetty is quite good.Rajpal Yadav excels. Sharat Saxena and Johny Lever are able. The remaining actors enact their parts satisfactorily. The film belongs to Paresh Rawal from Scene A to Z.The actor is at his best yet again. Overall, PHIR HERA PHERI has ample masala to keep its target audience -- the masses mainly -- more than happy. At the box-office, the film has opened to a thunderous response and in view of the fact that there's no major opposition for the next two weeks, the film will prove a money spinner for its distributors. Has all it takes to attain the 'Hit' status due to the huge, record-breaking initial and patronage from the masses."
  • Diganta Guha from Hindustantimes criticized the film and stated that "Phir Hera Pheri falls flat
  • Brilliant performances by Akshay Kumar and Paresh Rawal can't save a confused script."
  • Times of India critics gave 2.5 star from 5 star.

A thoroughly enjoyable fare, the film has all it takes to hit the bull's eye. This clean comedy with no vulgarity won't just make the viewers laugh with its jokes, but also make its distributors laugh all the way to the bank."
  • Ritujay Ghosh from Hindustantimes gave 3 star from 5 star and stated that "Crisp storyline and good performances do wonders for Golmaal.Golmaal is worth watching. There are two reasons why Golmaal can be termed a good film. One, it has a very neat storyline where all the actors get an equal chance to perform. Two, the story never goes out of focus. For both, the credit goes to debutant director Rohit Shetty who has aptly exploited the potential of his actors.Paresh Rawal, who always gives the impression that no one could have done better, leaves an impression on the audience with his role of a fun-loving man with a painful personal life. Rimii, who has a small role, does not disappoint and performs when she gets a chance."
  • Anupama Chopra from Indiatoday on film reviewing stated that "This Golmaal has none of the genteel wit of Hrishikesh Mukherjee's 1979 classic. It is unapologetically loud, lowbrow and riotously funny. The lunacy, scripted by Neeraj Vora, is inspired and the lead actors run with the madcap one liners."

Review of the film :

This film reviews are mostly positive from critics, Become Cult-classic film overtime.

Critics reviews :
  • Times of India critics gave 3.5 star from 5 star and stated that "Johnny Gaddaar lives up to his debut venture and doesn't let you sit back. Watch out for Neil Mukesh who pitches the perfect note as the smooth snake in the sleeve. This grandson of Mukesh definitely has a long innings ahead. Wish Shankar Ehsaan Loy's music score had matched up to the jagged notes of the film. Nevertheless, this one's complete paisa vasool stuff."
  • Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama also gave 3.5 star out of 5 star and writes that "JOHNNY GADDAAR is a taut thriller that has the germs to catch up with the audience. At the box-office, its business at multiplexes will be the best. Lack of a major opposition coupled with an additional holiday on Tuesday (October 2 - Gandhi Jayanti) would prove to be a bonus!"
  • Rajeev Masand on film reviewing gave 3 star out of 5 star and stated that "Johnny Gaddaar is a delicious thriller, it’s a thriller very unlike his own previous film Ek Hasina Thi, and very unlike most thrillers you’ve seen recently. Watch it because it’s that rare film that actually expects you to use your brain."
  • Khalid Mohamed from Hindustan times also gave 3 star from 5 star and noted that "Neil Nitin Mukesh who’s intense, sturdy and cool. Fingers crossed for the future -- an actor of potential is born."
