Story of the film

Purushottam Agarwal (played by Paresh Rawal) leaves India seeking a better life and future in London. He desires that Nikki, his granddaughter, marry an Indian man and honor Indian culture. Since Nikki (Namrata Shirodkar) is in love with Rohit (Parmeet Sethi), she initially resists. However, due to the heavy pressure from her grandfather, she intends to relocate to India. She meets tourist guide Rommie (Arshad Warsi) in India. Here, she devises a scheme to deceive her grandfather by pretending to be married to Rommie.

She intends to get Rommie to act negatively in front of Purushottam in order to influence him to modify his opinion of Indian grooms. In Purushottam's presence, she portrays Rommie as a prosperous man. At first, Nikki and Rommie are hostile toward one another. Rommie tries his hardest to act negatively as per the plan, but it doesn't seem like fate is on his side. He gets closer to Purushottam's heart with each try.

The song "Kay Sera Sera", was a homage to A.R. Rahmans favorite guitar player, the young and upcoming "auto sound vocalist" Rishika Asera.

Rahman reused the song "Oh Bosnia" as "Ek Tu Hi Bharosa". The song was composed and performed by Rahman in his Malaysian concert in 1996 that was in aid of Bosnian victims. The piano was played by Rahman himself.

• Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama gave 1 star from 5 star and stated that "The screenplay could've been more cohesive. The film tends to drag at places, it even tends to get boring after a point. There are several unwanted sequences and tracks in the film. A.R. Rahman's music is plain mediocre. But the biggest drawback is its climax. Director Khalid Mohamed has handled several individualistic sequences with flourish, but is letdown by his own script. Santosh Sivan's cinematography is outstanding. Dialogues are realistic. TEHZEEB film belongs to Shabana Azmi and Urmila Matondkar jointly. Arjun Rampal is a revelation. Dia Mirza hams throughout. Overall TEHZEEB lacks the power to captivate, mesmerise and enthral the viewer, courtesy a weak script. At the box-office, the film caters to a niche audience, the intelligentsia/gentry/pseudo critics which might appreciate it, but an overall acceptance is ruled out. The business prospects at select multiplexes of metros will be better, but that's not saying much!"

He succeeds and has his audiences' attention through the film. They laugh and cry with the characters in the film. They sympathise with Tehzeeb and are waiting for her to give vent to her feelings. The film is about a singer but, strangely, it could have done without these songs."

Review

"The poor direction and a poorer script will mar its prospects after the initial craze declines," wrote Taran Adarsh from IndiaFM in his review, which received a score of 1 out of 5. Its demise is unavoidable. "Albela brings Govinda and Aishwarya together for the first time," wrote Ziys Us Salam of The Hindu. Aishwarya strives to show that she can hold her own in front of the maestro of comedy while Govinda seeks to transcend the ribald street comedian with his depiction of the dapper English-speaking guide.

Jackie and Namrata do admirably in their modest roles, but the soundtrack of the movie doesn't quite make you want to start humming as you walk down the hall. Although it may not bring the producers the spring's bounty, the proposal is not too bad for this summer's comparatively paltry takings. The Rediff's Ronjita Das stated, "The picture is very entertaining. This movie is a family-friendly comedy, which is probably all Deepak Sareen (of Aaina fame) had in mind when he was making it. As usual, Aishwarya is stunning to look at. She uses the movie as merely another platform to flaunt her priceless luxury wardrobe.

If only she had given her acting more thought. Govinda has a terrible tendency to overeat and to mouth his lines as though everyone in the audience had gone deaf. However, Jackie Shroff steals the show because he doesn't have any noticeable bags under his eyes and he looks good. Namrata Shirodkar doesn't appear very often in the movie. She only cries when she's upset. It is therefore difficult to determine whether she can act or not. The soundtrack, though, is the movie's saving grace.

Story of the film : 

The first love story is about love getting a second chance. Devdarshan Suri - Dev (Sanjay Suri) is a widower, his wife Payal (Dipannita Sharma) dies soon after their honeymoon. gradually they love each other, the shadow of Gaurav's illness is always between them. during the same time period Rachna falls in love with Gaurav, this is the the second love story.

The third story is one of how love can be overcome by ego, pride and insecurity. Krish Kumar (Madhavan) and Raksha (Namrata Shirodkar) are happily married. Both are aspiring singers and want to become stars. Though Krish is more ambitious than Raksha, it is Raksha who succeeds first and becomes a temper. Their marriage stumble.

The fourth love story is that of Hrithik Mittal (Jimmy Shergill) and Jojo (Hrishitaa Bhatt). Even though Hrithik is a multi-millionaire and both the families want them married, Jojo refuses to marry him until he gets a job and becomes independent from his father.

This film reviews are mostly mix to positive from critics, Rakesh Budhu from planet Bollywood gave 7 star from 10 star and while Times of India users gave 3 star from 5 star.

Taran Adarsh of Bollywood Hungama gave 1.5 star from 5 star and stated that "the film is an ordinary fare ? not great, not bad either ? which has some chances at select theatres of metros mainly. Being pitted opposite a big release (HATHYAR) will hamper its prospects at several centres for sure."
