Bhaag Milkha Bhaag film is a 2013 Bollywood biopic of Milkha Singh – sports drama film Directer is Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra while a script writer is Prasoon Joshi produced under banner of ROMP Pictures. The story is based on the life of Milkha Singh, an Indian athlete who was a national champion runner and an Olympian.
The film leading star cast are Farhan Akhtar in the title role (Milkha Singh) with Sonam Kapoor Ahuja, Divya Dutta, Meesha Shafi, Pavan Malhotra, Yograj Singh, Art Malik and Prakash Raj in supporting roles. Sports was co-ordinated by the American action Director Rob Miller of ReelSports. Farhan Akhtar, the playing Milkha Singh, going for exhaustive training sessions lasting 18 months to get a muscular body. Farhan Akhtar's coach is played by Yograj Singh,Cricketer Yuvraj Singh's father. Pakistani singer-actor Meesha Shafi is making her Bollywood debut with the movie. She has earlier worked in Mira Nair's 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist'.
The film shooting started in February 2012 and mainly took place in Punjab, India, with some scenes shot in Delhi, Tokyo, Melbourne and Rome.
The film is releasing on 12th July, 2013 with Highly positive critics reviews and also Box office India declared Super-Hit status, with Making cost around 30 Crore INR and Worldwide collected 168 Crore INR. The film is the sixth highest collecting 2013 Bollywood film worldwide and became the 21st film to gross 100 Crore club. Farhan Akhtar also won best actor award at Filmfare Awards.
Haryana government and Goa's government gave tax-free status to the film for three months.
Milkha Singh and his daughter, Sonia Sanwalka, co-wrote his autobiography, named The Race of My Life. The book inspired Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Milkha Singh sold the film rights for one rupee and inserted a clause stating that a share of the profits would be given to the Milkha Singh Charitable Trust. The Trust was founded in 2003 with the aim of assisting poor and needy sports people. Milkha Singh presented his shoes that he wore during the Rome Olympic to Farhan Akhtar during the shoot of the movie.
