The film is inspired from Hit Malayalam film Aniyathipraavu which was also remade in Tamil as Kadhalukku Mariyadhai and in Kannada as Preethigaagi.
The music composer is A. R. Rahman. The music also used in the 1999 Tamil movie Jodi and its Kannada version Sajni 2007.

Story of the film :
Inderjit "Inder" Bansal (Akshaye Khanna) is a very rich young man. Although his parents (Anupam Kher/Moushumi Chatterjee) want him to settle down, he goes to another city to do his MBA and stays with friends.
During MBA college, he meets Pallavi Sinha (Jyothika) and they fall in love. She also share his feelings, but trouble comes in the form of her autocratic three brothers (Paresh Rawal, Tej Sapru and Mohnish Behl), who are over-protective of their little sister and take an irrational dislike to Inder.
They show hostility towards Inder and conflicts starts within the households and the couple decides to elope, but afterward realize they miss their families. They decide to return home, hand over their feelings, but ultimately their families accept their love, and they are reunited.

The film music composer is A. R. Rahman, who worked with Priyadarshan in his previous film Kabhi Na Kabhi. The lyricist is Mehboob.
A. R. Rahman reused most of the songs in the 1999 Tamil film Jodi. The producers of Jodi's 2007 Kannada remake Sajni, bought the rights of the songs and used it in the film.
The video clip of the song "Kissa Hum Likhenge" was shoot in the Greek islands Mykonos and Melos.

Review of the film :
This film reviews are mostly mix to positive from critics, Ashish Khanna from Planet Bollywood gave 8 star from 10 star and stated that "The direction and cinematography of the film are great and typical of Priyadarshan. The picturization of the songs (Saroj Khan, Farha Khan et al...) is also brilliant - especially "Tara Rum Pum" and the "Kissa Hum Likhenge" number! A.R. Rehman´s music, though ear-catching on its own, comes to life on screen in a way atypical of most Bollywood composers. Akshaye Khanna and Jyotika Sadanah make a very good pair. Akshaye might just have his first solo hit on his hand, and child-woman-like Jyotika makes as impressive a debut as Neha"
